6 unusual things to our immigrants that there are in every American home

The author of the channel “Travel through” on “Yandex.Zen” told what features of American homes may seem unusual to our immigrants. Hereinafter in the first person.

6 непривычных нашим иммигрантам вещей, которые есть в каждом американском доме

For this article I visited a couple of houses and apartments for sale. Went and watched and asked questions to the realtor.

  1. Painted walls without Wallpaper

None of American home, in any American apartment I haven’t seen Wallpaper on the walls. All the walls are covered with paint or primer. And, frankly, it is very convenient. Because you can do anything – the scope for creativity is opened. You can even the same Wallpaper pokleit, although personally I don’t like Wallpaper because I remember the eerie bubbles, spots of damp and peel off pieces on the wall in childhood.

  1. Soft carpets on the entire floor

Even on the stairs. So thick and very soft carpet. When I look at these, for some reason I think about a Persian. And this one-piece carpet, nailed or glued to the floor. No gaps – all the carpet. As for me, it’s very cool, because, firstly, prevents slipping on the floor in socks, and secondly, cool reduces the noise from the steps. Not necessary each time to jump out of the middle of the night from the sound of neighbors above or their household behind the wall.

  1. Huge basement

And it’s not just basements, and entire floors with Windows. Of course, Russia also has a spacious basement. But it is the basement, where you store tools, old clothes, toys and furniture. In the States the perception of a basement is completely different: there are areas with pool table, bar and TV, are hangouts and even meetings of various clubs and societies. And Windows in basements must be fire safety demands.

  1. Ventilation/temperature control

Never paid attention to it, but in American homes and apartments no batteries (neither under Windows, as we have no walls). “How is temperature controlled?” – you will ask. And here’s how: instead of batteries in residential areas of USA set the thermostats connected directly to the ventilation system. Thus, at any time of the year you can set comfortable temperature in the house. This, of course, convenient, but there is a downside: the ventilation system is quite loud noise. This is especially annoying at night.

  1. The window in the bathroom/toilet

How often have you seen Windows in bathrooms and toilets? In Russian modern apartments that no longer meet. When I was little, our apartment had a window in the toilet and bath. But the house where I lived, it was more than 60 years! And in America, even in ultra-modern apartments always have Windows in the bathrooms. Not to mention their own homes. And personally I like it much more because the level of humidity with an open window inevitably tends to zero. And the walls and the ceiling slowly dampen and spoil.

  1. Built-in wardrobe in the bedroom

Absolutely all the houses and apartments where I lived in the US, the bedrooms were always a closet on the wall. In a large room (and, by extension, cabinets) have even been installed! Such large cabinets – just a gift for girls with lots of clothes and shoes. And it is very profitable in financial terms, because it is not necessary to separately buy a wardrobe. Well, needless to say that in the apartments where there is no basement or mezzanine of any such cabinets are indispensable in terms of storing tools and other things that aren’t clothes.

I must say that some of the things I just shared with you, you can easily convert (for example, pull out carpet, Wallpaper paste on the wall and patching the window in the bathroom). But it is on by default in the sale of houses or apartments in the base, so to speak.

And who needs that when all these things are comfortable?!
