A guide for the perfect voter

After 36 days of campaigning, Quebec voters are invited today to choose their MP. Here is a little guide to help you find your way around this polling day.  

Criteria required to vote

  • Be 18 years old or more
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Reside in Quebec at least since April 3, 2022
  • Be registered on the electoral list (you can check your registration on the website of the Chief Electoral Officer of Quebec)
  • Not to be under curatorship or to have lost his electoral rights

October 3, D-Day

    < li dir="auto">Polling stations are open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • An “Information Card” has been mailed to you indicating the address and number of your polling station as well as the candidates running in your constituency.
  • Four hours to vote: the law obliges the employer to allow four consecutive hours between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. to vote on election day (without reduction in salary or other penalty) or face a fine.
  • Advance voting was possible on September 25 and 26.

Documents to bring to vote

You must have one of these pieces of identification with you:

  • Quebec driver's license
  • Carte d' Quebec health insurance
  • Canadian Passport
  • Certificate of Indian Status
  • Canadian Forces Identity Card

Having trouble voting?

  • Polling station staff will be there to help you, whether it's marking your ballot vote or to have the ballot explained to you, if you have vision problems.
  • Posters with photos of the candidates will be placed in the polling places to facilitate the exercise of the right to vote for people who have difficulty reading.

How to vote?

  • When you go to your constituency office, you will need to mark the circle opposite the candidate of your choice on the ballot with the pencil that will be given to you.

Voting in six steps

  1. Go to the table indicated, then say your name and address and present an identity card.
  2. Go behind the voting booth with the ballot paper given to you by the electoral staff.
  3. Make a X, a checkmark or other mark in the circle next to the name of the candidate of your choice.
  4. Refold your ballot and return to the table.
  5. Tear off the stub of your ballot by following the dotted line and return it to u personal.
  6. Place your ballot in the ballot box.
