A few hours after obtaining his motorcycle license on Tuesday, a 16-year-old teenager was fatally hit in Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare by a young driver who was fleeing the police.

“My boy was stolen from me. I am in shock, ”said the teenager’s father, whose identity is protected by a publication ban.

The tragedy occurred around 8:30 p.m. in this small municipality of nearly 4,000 souls located in the heart of Lanaudière.

His son was traveling on the road to Sainte-Béatrix on his brand new 250 cc motorcycle when he was violently rammed by a car.

Ludovic Clavette, who was driving the car, allegedly accelerated suddenly in order to flee the police who had just intercepted him for a forged license plate, which read “TABARNAK”.

The force of the impact left the teenager on a motorbike and a passenger in the vehicle involved, also 16, seriously injured. They both died a few hours later in hospital. Clavette, for his part, suffered minor injuries.

His vehicle was towed on Wednesday and will be assessed by the Montreal police.

New driver

The young victim who was driving the small motorbike had only received his license a few hours earlier.

“He was so happy,” whispered his sister.

“He walked around all afternoon, his father added. He went to see one of his friends at Saint-Sulpice, he went to dinner with his mother. He had his motorcycle and he was tripping. »

His son, who had just finished his fourth secondary, had notably been nominated as personality of the year for his level.

Beloved by all

“Everyone loved him”, repeated the father of the family several times.

A sports enthusiast, he excelled in skiing and scootering, in addition to playing hockey from an early age.

“But he was very humble. He did not take himself for another. He showed no arrogance,” said his father, who had just retired from teaching physical education.

For his part, Ludovic Clavette appeared Wednesday afternoon at the Joliette courthouse .

He is charged with dangerous driving causing death and flight.

The 19-year-old man looked very tired and confused.

He kept rubbing his eyes for almost the entirety of his appearance.

The one who has no criminal record will remain detained pending further proceedings since the Crown has opposed his release. < /p>

As is the case when police officers are involved in a fatal accident, the file has been transferred to the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI).

As for the investigation surrounding Clavette's actions, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) will be in charge.
