A Saskatchewan babysitter will serve an eight-month prison sentence after repeatedly giving alcohol to a child under the age of 2 in her care.

Jessica Rae Fehr pleaded guilty on October 3 to criminal negligence causing harm to a child, according to CTV News. The alleged facts occurred in May 2021, when she shared her alcoholic drink. The lady confessed to having given at least three sips of at least 10ml of rum and coke, using a syringe.

Shortly later, the toddler found himself in distress. He was blue and had difficulty breathing. Jessica Rae Fehr became concerned, she contacted her husband, who decided to call the police.

The child was taken to hospital. His heavy drinking put his life in danger. His blood alcohol level reached 330 mg per 100 ml of blood, which is more than four times higher than the legal limit for an adult.

In a letter read in court, Jessica Rae Fehr expresses remorse for being cruel by indicating that she “couldn't forgive herself”.
