Grieving Blue Jays coach

Toronto Blue Jays first base coach Mark Budzinski mourns his eldest daughter, Julia.

In a scene that raised many questions, during the second game of a doubleheader between the Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday at the Rogers Center, Budzinski was hugged by several staff members of the Toronto organization, including manager Charlie Montoyo, with whom he left the bench to return to the locker room.

“The Budzinskis have been part of the Blue Jays family for the past four seasons. This devastating loss is felt by the entire organization and we mourn [the loss of Julia] alongside Bud and his family, Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said in a statement Sunday. I have known Bud for over 25 years and have always admired his commitment as a father and as a husband. He is greatly loved and respected in our locker room and he holds a special place in our hearts. his family to live through this difficult ordeal.
