The mayor of the municipality, Jacques Bouchard, said he was nevertheless satisfied with the answers obtained Thursday, during a meeting with the authorities.

“Yesterday the message was sent that the population of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré was going to be completely landlocked, when that is totally false,” he says.

“The quadrilateral is really around the basilica as such where it will be closed, both on avenue Royale and on 138. But on the east and west side, it will be allowed to circulate,” adds Mr. Bouchard.

Something to reassure merchants in the industry who wondered how their employees were doing to be able to go to their place of work: a system of bracelets has been put in place to allow them to circulate. However, they will have to leave before 7 a.m.

While some employers are wondering if they will open their business on July 28, traders on Avenue Royale, which will remain partly pedestrianized that day, are optimistic.

“I'm not worried it's going to be a big hit,” said one.
