Demonstration against Judge Poliquin's decision in Montreal

UPDATE DAY

A demonstration against the decision of Judge Matthieu Poliquin will take place in front of the Montreal courthouse on Sunday noon. 

Hundreds of demonstrators opposing the discharge of the Trois-Rivières engineer Simon Houle are expected. 

The objective of this demonstration is to denounce the culture of impunity and to demand better access to care for victims of violence of a sexual nature. 

Mélanie Lemay, one of the organizers of the event, believes that Judge Poliquin's decision “is a bit like the tree that hides the forest”.

Thus, she hopes that the event will succeed in changing mentalities and the justice system.

“More than 95% of victims will not turn to the police”, she underlines . 

She says the goal is to create a dialogue to “see how it might be possible to facilitate access to repair and healing for the vast majority of victims”.
