The Canadian team in action at the Davis Cup Finals will count on Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime, she announced on Wednesday.

Defeated by Britain's Jack Draper in the second round of the still-running U.S. Open, the 22-year-old will join compatriots Alexis Galarneau, Vasek Pospisil and Gabriel Diallo in the round-robin tournament which will run concurrently from 13-18 September in the cities of Bologna, Hamburg, Glasgow and Valencia; the maple leaf players will evolve in the last of these and will find themselves in group B, along with Spain, Serbia and South Korea. The first two countries in each section will qualify for the final phase, scheduled in Malaga from November 21 to 27.

“We are delighted to have Félix join us, said in a press release from Tennis Canada the Captain Frank Dancevic. We will be in a very strong group. […] His participation will therefore increase our chances of qualifying for the final stage in November.”

The Montrealer will be part of the Davis Cup team for the fourth time in his career. He played in his first game of 2019 against Slovakia in a qualifying round, defeating Norbert Gombos in the decisive clash to help Canada qualify for the Finals.

Auger-Aliassime holds eighth place in the ATP Tour rankings. In addition to this competition, he will take part in the Laver Cup from September 23 to 25 under the colors of the World Team.
