Former Canadian senator charged with sexual assault

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) on Saturday issued three counts of sexual assault and one of criminal harassment against former Canadian Senator Don Meredith.

The OPS made the announcement Saturday after an investigation into allegations of sex crimes.

Don Meredith, 58, was a senator for seven years from 2010 to 2017, in Ottawa. He resigned in 2017 after receiving deportation threats.

It was rumored at the time that the ex-senator dated a teenage girl just 16 years old.

The charges filed by officers today relate to assaults allegedly occurring in 2013 and 2014, reported by adult women.

Don Meredith was however released on a promise to appear.

The OPS is concerned that there are other victims. He invites the alleged victims to contact him by dialing 613 236-1222, ext. 5944.
