GND refuses to wage war on meat

GND defends war on meat

MONTREAL – Attacked by the CAQ, Québec solidaire denies wanting to wage war on carnivores by imposing a reduction in meat consumption.

“Instead of an election campaign, the CAQ is engaged in a smear campaign,” denounced the spokesperson for Québec solidaire, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.

Earlier, the Caquiste Minister of Agriculture, André Lamontagne affirmed that the solidarity plan for the climate will create a significant monetary loss for farmers. “Just for the producers, producers it's $800 million a year without counting the impact for our processors,” he said Wednesday morning.

“It's a lie” , retorted Mr. Nadeau-Dubois. The Quebec solidaire plan does not include any measure that attacks Quebec breeders. »

Indeed, the QS plan provides for a reduction in the demand for animal protein from 5% to 12% by 2030. But the party stresses that the CAQ government is working itself on a decrease of about 7% over the same period.

This is the result of a fashion effect, explains the training, which reduces meat consumption.

The greater decrease in the QS plan is explained by its desire to impose greater consumption of vegetarian dishes in the public sector by adopting a policy of purchasing 50% plant-based products. In addition, 70% of food purchases should have been produced locally.
