He wants absolution for revenge porn

DAY

A young man who posted nude images of his ex-girlfriend hopes to walk away without a criminal record, despite the shame and trauma his victim suffered.

“When I found out this was posted on social media, it broke me. I felt like everyone saw the footage,” a 20-year-old woman said in a letter read to court Monday at the Montreal courthouse.

This victim spoke in the cause of her ex-boyfriend, guilty of non-consensual publication of intimate images. The 21-year-old resident of Longueuil cannot be named in order to protect the woman's identity. p>

Sexual Integrity

According to the facts presented to the court, the accused had committed his crime in November 2019 following their breakup. Jealous of having seen his ex with another boy, he then sent in a private group conversation two intimate videos of the victim in which, however, we did not see his face.

Quickly alerted, the latter managed to get him to remove the images.

” We don't know if the videos still exist online, recalled Me Thierry Sabourin of the Crown, by s' opposing absolution. Revenge porn affects intimacy and sexual integrity, which are almost sacred. The courts must send a strong message of deterrence.”

The accused, for his part, swears that he has learned from his mistakes. Apologizing for his gesture, he says he understands the damage he has caused. He has since completed his studies and works as an administrative assistant in a CISSS in Montérégie, added his lawyer, Fabrice Poirier.

Judge Alexandre St-Onge will hand down his sentence in September.
