Quebec City police are investigating a violent armed assault that occurred overnight from Saturday to Sunday, in Quebec City.
According to the spokesperson for the SPVQ, David Pelletier, the attack occurred around 2 a.m. on Saint-Joseph Street, near Dorchester. The context surrounding the events is being investigated; the police simply confirm that it is in progress.
A video is currently circulating on social media. We can see the beginning of an altercation, followed by the aggression. Five people are then in the center of the roadway. The victim then crashes heavily to the ground after an impact noise. A witness screams in front of the motionless body.
For some reason yet to be determined, a young adult was hit in the head with what appears to be a metal bar or retractable stick. The exact nature of the weapon used has not been confirmed by the police. The assailant struck from behind, while the victim had his back to him.
The young man suffered serious head injuries, but his life was not threatened. No arrests have yet been made. Police have not provided a description of the suspect either at this time.
Charges of assault with a weapon causing bodily harm or attempted murder could potentially be filed.
The Major Crimes Unit is investigating. The investigators are sharing the work with the Domestic Crime and Sexual Assault Unit since elements surrounding the attack must be clarified.
With the evidence gathered, the file could evolve quickly.
The Serious Crimes Unit is made up of a dozen investigators who mainly deal with serious crimes, particularly attempted murder.
