International Hot Air Balloon: 7 shows to see

Like most other festivals this summer, the International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu will be back in full swing, from August 13 to 21. After a three-year hiatus, the popular Monteregian event is bringing back its shows, in addition to the traditional hot-air balloon flights. In order to find yourself among the nine days of festivities, Le Journalasked the head of programming, Junior Bombardier, to target seven unmissable musical and humorous events this year.

Charlotte Cardin

« It's An evidence. Before her, that evening, there will be Zach Zoya. CRi, who made with Charlotte the cover Fous n’abord, will play right after. Charlotte, we had her at the festival at the very beginning of her career. She was opening for Marie-Mai. She had almost no equipment. She was doing covers. We had supported her. Since then, we have seen a lot of its evolution. Even though she has done the MTelus 13 times in Montreal, which is part of our territory, the ticket office is working at full speed. It's a highly anticipated evening. »

► Sunday, August 14, from 8 p.m.

Billy Talent

“ We don’t have a lot of rock history at Montgolfières. We've always been into pop a lot. This year, we open with The Franklin Electric, which are always very good. Hubert Lenoir will then offer us a more rock version of his material. We expect something that will rise. And we end with Billy Talent, who we also receive for the first time. We're really looking forward to that. The watchword is really to have fun and make it super rock. We are happy, because we have never opened the festival with rock. »

► Saturday August 13, from 7.30 p.m.

“Marjo and La Chicane, I see it a bit like a gift to our festival-goers. Marjo, at home, she made memorable evenings that we will remember all our lives. She is incredible on stage, that woman. On the side of La Chicane, the group is celebrating its 25th anniversary. With us, La Chicane, it was major. It drew large crowds. To have this combination together, I find it really exciting. It will all be hits, one after the other, that people will sing along to. »

► Tuesday, August 16, from 8 p.m.

Mariana Mazza

“ We tried to do something different with that night, something you can’t find at other festivals. We had the idea of making Le party de Mariana: Tounes & jokes. Mariana is super invested in this show. She invited a lot of artists with her. There will be Sarahmée, Laurence Nerbonne, Roxane Bruneau, Cathy Gauthier, Jo Cormier. There will also be, just before, three comedians who made Big Brother: Michelle Desrochers, Martin Vachon and Stéphane Fallu. Other surprise names will be added to that evening. It's going to be a very unique evening. In addition to her comedy number, Mariana will even sing! »

► Thursday, August 18, 9 p.m.

Tory Lanez< /h3>

“ That evening, there will be KNLO, Fouki & Koriass and Tory Lanez. It's pretty tough! It is also the evening that will end the latest in the history of the festival. There will be activity until half past midnight on the stage. It never happened. […] We've been talking about this for ten years and we finally reversed the edge scene so that the sound unfolds in the quarry and not towards the houses. We can therefore finish later without sending the sound directly into the residential sector. […] We had initially programmed Ludacris for this evening, but he had to withdraw, because his shooting schedules for a film have changed because of the COVID. »

► Friday, August 19, from 7:30 p.m.

Jason Derulo

“We were supposed to open the festival on August 13, with Alicia Moffet and Jason Derulo. But a scheduling problem with shows moved back due to COVID forced us to put that night on the 20th. We can't wait for that night. Alicia and Jason are TikTok megastars. Young people of all ages know and appreciate them. We enhanced the evening with DJ Domeno. It will be an evening with pyrotechnics. Hot air balloons will also be illuminated throughout the site. Jason Derulo will also come with dancers. It will be a big party. »

► Saturday, August 20, from 7:30 p.m.

Ariane Roy

“ Our big change this year is the Discovery Stage. We always had secondary stages at the festival, but we still produced a lot of local artists from the South Shore. There, we developed a stage to put up-and-coming artists. It is important for us in our positioning. We are going to open the machine more and more at this level. People who are less appealed to the hugely popular big-stage artists are going to have these up-and-coming shows every night from 5-7 p.m. Among others, there will be Ariane Roy, Robert Robert, Marilyne Léonard and Émile Bourgault. »

► Monday, August 15, from 5:30 p.m., on the Découvertes Stage
