A 19-year-old man was shot Wednesday night by a Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officer in Cowansville, Estrie.
According to the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI), the SQ had been called to intervene around 8:25 p.m. because of a man who had been seen in the Brome-Missisquoi Campus area, possibly in possession of a handgun .
“At the scene, the police reportedly located the man, who allegedly refused to obey orders and ran in their direction. The police would have fired at least one shot, and the man would have been hit in the lower body,” reported the BEI.
The 19-year-old man was transported to the hospital, where he was in stable condition at the end of the evening.
Five investigators from the BEI were tasked with shedding light on this event, with the support of the Police Department of the City of Montreal.
