Marilou Vanier candidate for the PQ in Duplessis


Adopted Septilian Marilou Vanier will defend the colors of the Parti Québécois in the riding of Duplessis during the next provincial elections. 

A native of Laval, Marilou Vanier said he hesitated for a long time after being approached by the Parti Québécois last June.

“For me, there was no other option than the Parti Québécois. I was an activist during the 1995 referendum, when I could not even vote,” said the one who settled in Sept-Îles seven years ago.

Since 2020, Marilou Vanier has been working as the director of the Côte-Nord of the Créneau d'excellence Ressources, Sciences et Technologies Marines.

This is a “regional development initiative for and by businesses” , according to what can be read on his LinkedIn profile. We also learn that she completed a recreation intervention technique at Dawson College and that she has been pursuing training in business administration and management since 2018.

“In economic development, for having supported entrepreneurs and for having organized missions in Eastern Quebec, because I work with people in the fisheries sector, I realize how difficult it is to have access to an air service that makes sense”, launched the one who wants to make the development of transport a priority in the electoral campaign.

“I live here, my children are growing up here, and the cost of living is high, we see that it is difficult for people who do not have large mining salaries to arrive. We must address these issues,” she continued.

“Solicited” by the CAQ

In an interview, Marilou Vanier affirms that she was informally approached by the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) last winter.

The director of communications of the CAQ, Claude Potvin, however, showed TVA Nouvelles a screenshot taken from LinkedIn in which she calls out to the director general and chief organizer of the party, Brigitte Legault, to discuss her potential candidacy for the CAQ.

“I immediately closed the door,” she said, saying that she replied that she was not interested in politics.

< p>It was only when the Parti Québécois approached her that Marilou Vanier began to think more deeply about the possibility of going into politics.

“There it is the PQ who asks you , it becomes a real reflection. There you say to yourself, who are my opponents, what is coming? she confided.

The Parti Québécois is the fourth party to present its candidate in the riding of Duplessis, after the Conservative Party of Quebec, the CAQ and Québec solidaire.
