Montréal: Body found in burnt-out vehicle


The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) is investigating a suspicious death, after the discovery of a body in a burnt-out vehicle in the borough of Ville-Marie, Sunday evening.

The inanimate body was discovered in the trunk of the vehicle which was the target of a fire in the early evening on rue de Versailles, near rue Saint-Antoine, according to the police de Montréal. 

The investigation has been entrusted to the major crimes section of the SPVM, which will call on the contribution of arson investigators and forensic identification technicians.

Investigators were already hard at work on the spot very early Monday, while an autopsy will be performed later on the body, said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant. 

< p>A security perimeter has been erected to protect the scene and allow investigators to try to determine the exact circumstances behind this macabre discovery. < /p>

Rue de Versailles has been closed to traffic between rue Saint-Antoine Ouest and rue Saint-Jacques Ouest, added agent Brabant.
