Nursing care: the end of employment agencies demanded by a labor union Monteregie

The Union of Healthcare Professionals of Montérégie-Ouest has called for the complete closure of private agencies to alleviate the crisis in the health network and relieve nurses.

“What is he waiting for Mr. Legault, that we really close all the emergencies in Quebec?” Insurgent Mélanie Gignac, president of the Union at the microphone of Philippe-Vincent Foisy, in an interview with QUB.< /p>

“The newly elected government is going to have to put on its pants and shut down private agencies,” she explained. The government is sabotaging its own public health system, she says.

She explains that Monday morning the emergency room was 203% occupied, and 28 patients had been there for more than 48 hours. There were only 9 out of 19 nurses on duty.

According to Ms. Gignac, the necessary employees exist, but do not work in the network. This is why she pleads for the closure of private agencies.

“The [workers of] private employment agencies do not work in the evening, not at night, not on weekends, not at Christmas and not on New Year's Day,” she lamented.

Network workers must therefore deal with these problems.

“I no longer know what will happen to the CISSSMO. I fear for my members right now,” she added.

Mélanie Gignac fears for the mental and physical health of the professionals she represents.
