We tend to forget it, but between 1830 and 1940, it was at this place, today called Grosse-Île-et-le-Mémorial-des-Irlandais, where placed immigrants in complete isolation for 40 days.  

We wanted to avoid the spread of influenza, cholera, typhoid and other epidemics that plagued Europe at that time. Here is her story.
