Roads to be rebuilt after heavy rains in Estrie

UPGRADE DAY

The heavy rains that fell in the last 48 hours caused some headaches for the residents of Frontenac, in the Eastern Townships.

Several residences were cut off from rows 3 and 4, since the culverts were washed away by the flowing water. A resident also feared that the rising water in his basement would reach his electrical panel. Fortunately, the worst was avoided. No resident was injured, but for a dozen residences, work to rebuild their entrance and join the road is to be done.

As of 6:30 am Tuesday morning, the city workers were called to secure the site and according to the director general of the municipality, Mr. Bruno Turmel, the work could take place over the rest of the week.

According to Environment Canada, between 60 and 95 millimeters have fallen since Sunday; a rare situation, but not exceptional.
