Mr. Gaudreault will take office on December 12, said the CEGEP's board of directors when announcing his hiring in the evening.

The president of the board, Valérie Legendre-Guillemin, judges that Mr. Gaudreault will bring a lot to the institution thanks to his career in politics and as a teacher, which will allow the Cégep “to continue its development on the regional, national and international levels, as much in research as in teaching”.

“ It is with great pride and driven by a great sense of responsibility that I accept this new challenge […]. Over the next few years […] I will devote myself unconditionally to the success of all students, to the development of research, to recruitment and to the influence of the organization,” commented Sylvain Gaudreault in a press release.

For the former MP, it is a return to his roots, he who had been a teacher at CEGEP in the Media Arts and Technologies and Human Sciences programs, between 2002 and 2007, the year he entered the National Assembly.

During his political career, Mr. Gaudreault was notably Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy and Minister of Transport under Pauline Marois. He was appointed interim leader of the PQ in 2016.
