“The End of Wonderland”: Transsexuality and Porn

UPDATE DAY

Tara Emory, director of crazy porn films – think “Barbarella” in post-industrial grunge mode, but candy pink – is the unconventional subject of filmmaker Laurence Turcotte’s documentary “The End of Wonderland” -Fraser.

Ever since she was little, Tara Emory has had an unbridled imagination. The reason for this is the accumulation of objects of all kinds made by her father, his collection of Volkswagen Beetles in particular, cars that he left in the front yard of their house.

Tara is also transsexual, which permeates her artistic career. The one who defines herself as a “micro celebrity” in the age of social networks has embarked on porn cinema to make money. She re-examines her career, speaks sincerely about her creations to Laurence Turcotte-Fraser. Ejaculating robots, collection of sex toys, etc., this is what Tara's daily life is made of. But it's also the end, since the premises of her studio in Wonderland are being sold by its owner.

We quickly understand the reasons that led Laurence Turcotte-Fraser to choose Tara as her subject of this documentary. Everything is surprising and slightly offbeat, as if the Wonderland studio sent us a modified image of Lewis Carroll's famous work. Do we agree completely? No. Because we always feel a distance, perhaps because Tara does not give herself up completely, because her reserve is perceptible. Unless it's an editorial choice…
