The kickoff of the centenary celebrations of Jean-Paul Riopelle is given


Classical music, public art, circus, theatre, literature, the festivities surrounding the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jean Paul Riopelle will give pride of place to a multitude of disciplines throughout Quebec. 

The Riopelle Foundation and its partners kicked off this year of Riopelle centenary celebrations this Friday, when the artist would have turned 99.

Over the next 12 months, exhibitions, workshops and meetings will be offered across Quebec to pay tribute to Jean Paul Riopelle, particularly in Montreal, where a series of five short films inspired by his life and work will be presented at the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA), from March 14 to 26, 2023.

At the Bibliothèque de Montmagny, a region where Riopelle spent the last years of his life between his residency of L'Isle-aux-Grues and its workshop of L'Île-aux-Oies, we will offer educational and medical workshops ation, in addition to inaugurating a new monument there in memory of the artist, who died on March 12, 2002.

In Charlevoix, two exhibitions will be dedicated to him in 2023, while in Trois-Rivières , next fall, the Center d'exposition Raymond-Lasnier, the Atelier Presse Papier and the Galerie d'art du Parc will host works from various collections, including the personal collection of Yseult Riopelle, the daughter of artist.

The celebrations will also include the participation of museums and educational institutions.
