The mayor of Îles-de-la-Madeleine will represent the CAQ at the next elections

The mayor of the municipality of Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Jonathan Lapierre, is entering provincial politics and will represent the CAQ in the riding of the same name in the next general election.

The announcement of his candidacy was made this Monday in the Magdalen Islands in the presence of the leader of the Coalition Avenir Québec and Premier, François Legault.

Mr. Lapierre was elected mayor of the Islands in 2013.

“The Magdalen Islands are a jewel,” said Jonathan Lapierre in a press release. Their beauty and the island aspect make everyone who comes here want to come back. The constituency has issues of its own. And we must act. This is why I ask for your trust. As you know, I have always fought for our part of the country. I want to do it today in Quebec, to bring your voice to the National Assembly.”

The current member of the Islands is the PQ Joël Arseneau. He has been in office since October 2018 and intends to stand again in the next elections which are due to take place this fall.
