THE STATEMENT

During her Friday press briefing on her health proposals, the leader of the PLQ Dominique Anglade cited figures on the waiting time for surgery in Quebec.

“It's 157,000 people who are waiting for surgery. Among these 157,000 people, I have a very special thought for the more than 20,000 people who have been waiting for more than a year to have surgery,” she said.

The right time: as the liberal leader said, there are also more 20,000 people who have been waiting for a year

It's true, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS).

As of August 13, 2022, the end date of the last financial period of the MSSS, there are currently 157,008 people currently waiting for surgery in the province.

The number of people in waiting for more than a year is 21,469.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused wait times to jump in the province. A peak of 160,450 people waiting for an operation was notably reached last February.
