The closure of a ramp between Champlain Boulevard and the Henri-IV Highway, starting Sunday, could cause headaches for motorists wishing to cross the Pierre-Laporte Bridge.
The ramp in question is located near the CN rail yard. It allows motorists traveling westbound on Champlain to access the Pierre-Laporte Bridge.
To take this bridge, motorists will have to continue on Champlain to Avenue des Hôtels, before taking Boulevard Laurier and branching off to take the Route 175 interchange which will take them south on Henri-IV. .
Users of Boulevard Champlain for whom the Quebec Bridge is an option will be able to take it quickly via Avenue des Hôtels.
The MTQ warns that this work could cause slowdowns and congestion, especially during peak hours.
The repair of the concrete structure of the Henri-IV highway, southbound, at the level of the ramp, is responsible for this closure. The ramp will be inaccessible from Sunday, 7 p.m. The MTQ estimates that it will reopen no later than Friday, September 2 at 5 a.m.
Furthermore, the installation of A supersignaling gantry on the night of August 15 to 16 will cause the Pierre-Laporte bridge to be completely closed for approximately 30 minutes.
Work will begin at 9 p.m. Monday and end at 5 a.m. the next day. During this period, two lanes out of three will be closed in each direction.
Heading south, the Henri-IV highway will be completely closed around 1 a.m. at chemin Saint-Louis.< /p>
Northbound, traffic will stop at the same time at the north end of the bridge, also for a period of 30 minutes. Please note that the ramp for boulevard Champlain will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and that a detour will be possible via chemin Saint-Louis.
Another construction site in Lévis
Another project will start on Monday, on the 325 interchange in Lévis, for a period of approximately 10 weeks.
From the 20, towards west, a second lane will be added at exit 173, heading north towards Wilfrid-Carrier Boulevard. The latter will also be widened by one lane to the access ramp to the 20, westbound.
Eastbound, a third lane will be added to Autoroute 20 for a distance of 500 m before the 325 interchange, i.e. the exit for Route du Président-Kennedy (173).
These works will have significant impacts. One of the two eastbound lanes of the 20 will be closed between kilometer 323 and interchange 325. Complete closures are also planned from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., and the maximum speed will be reduced to 70 km/h.
Lanes will also be closed on the 173 at the height of the 325 interchange in both directions, but only outside of rush hour.
In its press release announcing the start of construction around the 325 interchange, the MTQ indicated that “these interventions are part of the preparatory work for the Quebec-Lévis Tunnel”.
However, when the project was unveiled in March 2020, the government made no reference to the tunnel project.
